The College of Business and Security Management won an award for their communication work from the ²έΑρΙηΗψ chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, announced during an online ceremony Sept. 29.

The CBSM marketing team earned third place in the category β€œEvents and Observances (seven or fewer days)” based on their work on the ²έΑρΙηΗψ Arctic Innovation Competition, an annual idea contest that awards over $40,000 in cash prizes and awards. The first place winner in this category was GCI and second place went to First National Bank of ²έΑρΙηΗψ.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Arctic Innovation Competition changed from a one-day, in-person event to a multiday virtual event, with four evenings of semifinals and a 90-minute finals and award ceremony.

CBSM student marketing assistants Alanna Bailey, a business administration senior, and accounting sophomores Ivy Packee and Ashley Plys helped plan, market and host AIC 2021. Reworking a large, in-person event into a series of virtual events was a major undertaking that gave these students a chance to run their first major event and gain on-the-job experience.

The PRSA Aurora Awards annually recognize the best public relations work in ²έΑρΙηΗψ.
